A teacher hurrying to today’s meeting with Serzh Sargsyan in Kapan said that their headmaster had obliged them to be present.”
2008-01-24 08:43

When the meeting was over, one of the women said, “Nobody can oblige anyone… Whoever comes here without being obliged will actually vote for him.”

Before the arrival of the prime minister, the Armenian pop stars were giving concerts, and the pictures of singer Arame could be seen in the hands of schoolchildren beside the RPA flags and slogans.

The prime minister addressed the kids, saying that he would like to become president so that they always kept “bubbling with life like now.”

“The war has made me a realist, and if I want something, I never make hints or never put on airs – I just directly say yes, I want to become the president of the republic,” Serzh Sargsyan said. “I want to become president so that these children could smile more, so that our towns are never bombed, so that there is always electric power in our apartments, and so that our kids could talk with their fathers not on the phone but in reality.”

He said he was convinced that many of the voters had already decided who to vote for because one month is not enough for a person to persuade to vote in his favor.

“A candidate comes to the people with its background to ask for a ballot of trust,” the prime minister stated.

He told the Kapan people that he really considered himself as one of them because he had been born in a similar town, was aware of the problems of such towns and knew how to solve them.

The prime minister promised that nobody would turn up in an awkward situation in case of voting for him.

When Serzh Sargsyan concluded his speech with the words Go ahead, Kapan, go ahead, Armenia, and got off the stage, the gathered children started shouting Arame, Arame!

Before arriving in Kapan, the candidate had been in the towns Meghri and Agarak. And on January 23 prime minister visited Sisian, Goris and Kajaran.

In Sisian, he promised that in 2012 we would have just 10 percent of needy population, and would not have poverty at all. Also, in 2012, we are going to live twice as better as now.

“Whatever I said does not mean that those having one apartment are going to have two, and it does not mean that our rich people and oligarchs will double their wealth. It means that the pensions, the gross domestic product and the budget will increase twice. My platform is based on the wish to form an atmosphere of love, mutual respect and trust. And that atmosphere will bring us success,” the prime minister said.

In Shinuhayr village the prime minister recited Charents’s poem My Sweet Armenia with the schoolchildren.

And in Goris, he reminded, “I told you during the National Assembly elections that military pilots had a very good tradition – after implementing a complicated task, they come and report to the commander-in-chief the following way – “let me get your reprimands.” Now, after implementing that task with your support, I have come here to get your reprimands. If you think I have not justified your trust for these eight months you can vote for others, and if not, just help me, vote for me so that I can go and fulfill a more complicated work.

Armine Avagyan, Kapan
