OPPOSITION DOES NOT WISH TO AGGRAVATE THE INTERNAL POLITICAL SITUATION (VIDEO)

After a one-and-a-half-month break, the opposition conducted its first rally. For the first time after February, the rally had been licensed on behalf of the Yerevan authorities. 2008-09-15 11:49
This time there were fewer participants, as compared with the previous assemblies. There were up to five thousand people gathered at the Matenadaran square.
The gathering was licensed but the march was not. The police once again reminded the opposition leader Levon Ter-Petrossian about it. However, the gathered people were anticipating a march.
David Shahnazaryan, a representative of the all-national movement talked about the future actions of the opposition, at the same time noting that, in his opinion, they should proceed to decisive actions. “As much as our rage is fair and honest, we have to be guided by impassive political considerations,” Shahnazaryan said.
“We have to understand, that it is not time for abrupt actions by the Movement at the moment”, David Shahnazaryan said, noting, that the opposition movement should be careful not to become a tool in the hands of foreign powers.
Levon Zurabyan set the future agenda of the Movement, saying the logic and rules of the game have now changed, and the opposition will avoid direct confrontations and engage in the sphere of ideology instead.
Speaking for around half an hour, Levon Ter-Petrossian analyzed the geopolitical situation around Armenia, and noted that these are hard times for Armenia’s foreign politics. “The Movement should take care not to harm the Country and the people, opposition leader said.
“I wish you dignity, nobility and longevity since you are the winners. Do not ever have doubts in your strength, in our strength. We are together, and we will achieve our victory together,” Ter-Petrossian concluded his speech.
At the end of the gathering Levon Zurabyan declared that no march would take place on that day. He informed that the opposition would conduct the next gathering on September 26, 2 days prior to the elections of the head of Kentron district administration. In that community, the opposition supports the AAM chairman Ararat Zurabyan.
