According to Karen Shahbazyan, the prosecutor of the region, 4 people died of gunshot wounds in Spitak where no severe crimes had happened for the last years.

At 20:50 a masked stranger shot in the direction of a wagon located in an almost unit area not far from the central square of the town. There were 5 people there – Styopa Dilbaryan, Varujan Martirosyan, Nshan Danielyan, Garush Marutyan from Spitak and Karapet Miskaryan from Vanadzor. Two people have died on the spot of gunshot wounds, and two have died on the way to hospital. Only Garush Marutyan from Spitak has survived.

The Lori regional prosecutor cannot say for sure what the Spitak people were doing with the man from Vanadzor in the wagon. Karen Shahbazyan has decided to be persistent and disclose both crimes.

Karapet Miskaryan, 44, from Vanadzor, was famous in the city – he had a construction materials business and had a lot of contacts not only among the criminal world representatives of Vanadzor but of Spitak, too.

Shootings near Stepanavan – another town in the region of Lori – have happened 10 minutes after the incident in Spitak.

The regional prosecutor does not see a connection between the crimes that have happened within one day, with a 10-minutes difference. If, in case of Spitak, the preliminary investigation knows nothing about the criminal and the circumstances of the incident, the person having attempted murder against Sargis Gharakeshishyan, the mayor of Stepanavan is already known.

The head of Stepanavan pension fund Armen Grigoryan had decided to find out why the newly-elected mayor had dismissed his sister from work. Armen, his brother in law Arthur Aghajanyan and 7 friends have visited Drakht restaurant belonging to the mayor. During the argument Armen has tried to hit the mayor’s neck with an unknown cutting tool. As a response, Gharakeshishyan has fired with his weapon. According to the prosecutor, Gharakeshishyan has fired in circumstances that had happened independently of his will, as well as for defense reasons. Armen Grigoryan, his brother-in-law and a friend of theirs suffered from the gunshot. All the others have run away. Armen Grigoryan has eloped, too, whereas the mayor, Arthur Aghajanayn and his friend are in hospital.

A criminal case has been filed against Armen Grigoryan, based on the articles 34 and 104 of the RA criminal code (an attempt of murder.)

Prosecutor Shahbazyan considers disclosing the crimes to be the only way to prevent such incidents in Lori. Actually, last year’s murder of the former regional prosecutor Albert Ghazaryan has not been disclosed yet.
