The court passed a guilty verdict against the 4 defendants, sentencing Alexander Arzumanyan, Myasnik Malkhasyan, Hakob Hakobyan to 5 years and Suren Sirunyan – to 4 years of imprisonment. The amnesty, announced on June 19, was applied, and the prisoners were set free.
Their relatives, friends and supporters had arrived to welcome and support them all. The relatives that had been waiting for them for more than 1 year were excited and did not believe that, as they said, “the authorities would do such a good thing.”
Myasnik Malkhasyan stated that he would appeal the court decision in any case, proving his innocence. Suren Sirunyan also stated about his intention to appeal the court decision.
Alexander Arzumanyan said that he would restrain from comments for the time being, promising to talk later.
Anahit Bakhshyan that had come to support her colleague stated that she welcomed the fact of amnesty although she did not see humanistic expressions in it.
Alexander Arzumanyan, Suren Sirunyan, Myasnik Malkhasyan and Hakob Hakobyan left the court and went to the Myasnikyan monument, in order to put flowers in memory of the victims of March 1. Then they went to Hrazdan, in order to participate in the trial of Sasun Mikayelyan. It is planned that the released persons will meet with the ANC activists at 18:00, near the Saryan monument.
