According to the RA Cassation Court press secretary Alina Yengoyan, “the court has applied the first sub-point of the first point of the decision on declaring amnesty, adopted by the RA National Assembly on June 19, 2009, exempting Onik Alexanyan from the appointed sanction. At the same time, the court has made a decision on suspending detention, having been chosen as a precautionary measure, and immediately freeing Alexanyan from the court room.”

According to the indictment, Onik Alexanyan was being accused of faking the election results at the polling station 8/15 where he was a chairman of the commission.

The amnesty will also affect Norik Yeghiazaryan and Armen Ohanyan, sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment by Malatia-Sebastia general jurisdiction court.

Norik Yeghiazaryan and Armen Ohanyan had been sentenced for photocopying the ballots at the polling station 8/5 during the elections on May 31 and illegally voting instead of 16 citizens for the Republican Party of Armenia.
