NA deputy Khachatur Sukiasyan has disseminated a statement where he has noted he has no problems with appearing before law-enforcement bodies since he has committed no crimes.
2009-07-06 06:49

It is mentioned in the statement,

“Dear fellow countrymen,

As you know, on March 4, 2008 the RA National Assembly satisfied the mediation of the general prosecutor, agreeing to conduct criminal persecution against me and my colleagues, and detain us in the framework of the 3rd part of the 225th article (riots accompanied with murder) and the 1st part of the 300th article (coup d’Etat) of the RA criminal code. But thanks to the consistent interference on behalf of you and a number of authoritative structures, in particular – the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the authorities had to de-criminalize the above-mentioned norms that were formerly permitting to persecute a person for his political views. Adoption of the act of amnesty followed it, the application of which allowed setting my colleagues free.

This act of amnesty has also defined that amnesty will affect the persons in retrieval if they appear before the law-enforcement bodies by July 31, 2009.

I have no problems with appearing since, first of all, I have committed no crimes. Moreover, the authorities have changed the accusations against me and my colleagues, later adopting the act of amnesty and, actually, stating that, all this time, they have been conducting nothing else but political persecution against us. Apart from that, while changing the accusation against me, the general prosecutor was obliged to acquire the consent of the National Assembly, based on the requirement of the 3rd part, 66th article of the RA Constitution. That consent was also obligatory for solving the issue of my further detention, as well as the further detention of the other deputies, which also has not happened, and I, actually, am being subjected to criminal persecution, not being deprived of my immunity as a deputy. That is, today I have the right to walk freely in my city, and no policeman is competent to restrict my freedom in any way. The National Assembly of Republic of Armenia must also be interested and make sure no illegal steps are conducted against a deputy.

Naturally, the authorities will apply their typical style and, neglecting even the demands of the latest resolution 1677 of the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe, will strive to keep me in prison and, through the judges that act as their tools, to get the seals that had been put under their fake and feigned accusations. I am not specifically concerned about all these things. I am ready to consistently struggle for the recovery of my rights and freedoms, as well as the rights and freedoms of my nation, and I am convinced that justice will finally triumph.”
