ConRes, one of the top companies in Europe, conducted a sociological poll among 2000 residents of Armenia on October 25-31 to find out some matters related to pre-election realities.
2007-11-08 12:26

Among general questions were: Has Armenia taken up the right direction? Do you have expectations for the upcoming 12 months? Which information source do you consider most impressive during the campaign? Also 9 names of presidential candidates have been mentioned in order to find out whom Armenian citizens have been connecting the solution of their problems. It has turned out that the candidate is Serzh Sargsyan.

For each problem, a separate question has been formed – who is the best candidate that can solve the problem? According to the sociological survey, the public trusts Serzh Sargsyan in solving the issues of unemployment, reinforcing the economy of Armenia, the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh, impeding the threat of war, improving the state of the roads, ensuring the safety of Armenia, and problems of social security. The interesting point is that the surveyed people, unequivocally, trust him also in solving the issue of Genocide acknowledgement. According to the answers to this question, Dashnak Vahan Hovhannisyan has taken the 5th place.

According to the survey, the most effective person to fight corruption is again Serzh Sargsyan. But the noteworthy thing in this case is the fact that he and Arthur Baghdasaryan have got the same percentage of votes – 20%.

In general, the chairman of CofL and Raffi Hovhannisyan have occupied the second or third lines, based on the answers to various questions.

The fourth never-changing line always belongs to Artashes Geghamyan. The candidates also include Armen Rustamyan, Vazgen Manukyan, Tigran Karapetyan, and Levon Ter-Petrossian. The latter occupies the 7th-9th lines.

Yesterday Andrew Hawkins, the head of the British company having conducted the poll, presented the picture, stating that there had never been a case in the course of his activities where the same candidate had been the leader in every position, the difference between the candidates being so big (40% - 11%; 34% - 20%...)

Hawkins said he personally was not acquainted to any of the candidates and has never thought about whom he would like to meet. Mr. Hawkins also said he knew nothing of the latest survey conducted by GALLUP, according to which Serzh Sargsyan had no first position at all. Mr. Hawkins was not able to comment on the difference of those two polls.

The organization of Andrew Hawkins had conducted the poll based on the order of CS Media Armenia-based organization, having conducted with the Association of Sociologists of Armenia. However, he said that the similarities in surveys by their company and the other organization did not mean there was a general influence. According to Hawkins, “Serzh Sargsyan has such an advantage that, regardless of the surveys, he will take up the first position.”
